Jesus has a plan for the men of the city. Jesus has a plan for the marriages of the city. We believe Richmond is ready for revival. |
We believe that God has a plan for Richmond, despite the negative things we’ve seen and heard. We believe that God is building an army of people who believe in who He is and what He says in His Word so that He can bring transformation to Richmond.
Vision for the Men
We believe that manhood is a calling.
That is, a boy is called to be a man. A man is called to be a father.
But, in this culture, boys become fathers, without first becoming men. This culture also reproduces fathers who are emotionally and financially disconnected from their children.
We want to create a culture in Richmond that connects fathers to their children emotionally and financially, while also recognizing that a healthy relationship with the child’s mother is critical.
So what’s the big deal? Why should any of us care? Well, as it turns out, kids without fathers around are -
- 5 times more likely to be poor
- 2-3 times more likely to smoke cigarettes
- 2 times more likely to drop out of school
- 150 percent more likely to experience a non-marital teen pregnancy
- 70 percent of juveniles in state institutions grew up in fatherless homes
- 72 percent of adolescent murders grew up without their fathers
But, with fathers present
- Children fare better academically
- Children experience fewer behavioral problems
- Children are less likely to engage in delinquent behavior
- Girls experience increased sense of competency
- Boys more responsible men and fathers―especially African Americans (Role Model)
- Fathers experience increased self-esteem
And this is the vision we see for the men of Richmond. Boys, who grow up to be men, who grow up to be fathers who then raise the next generation, thus creating a new cycle of what it means to be a responsible man.
Vision for Marriages
Healthy marriages are important. We are not saying that single parents can’t have strong families, because they can. However, we are trying to mirror God’s design for two parent families.
To do this, we have “10 Great Dates” 1 weekend for 10 months. “10 Great Dates” is a place for married couples to come, with their children. The church will provide child care while the couples watch a 15 minute video on some marriage topic. After the video, the couple will go out on a date to discuss the topic, then return to wrap up.
Vision for the City
We believe that there are seven areas within every culture:
1. Family
2. Religion
3. Education
4. Government
5. Business
6. Media
7. Arts
God is calling and equipping His people to go into these seven areas to see Richmond transformed.
So Jesus has a plan, and it’s for you.
