Our story, like all stories, began with an Author and a vision.
The vision, which started with one man dreaming about what God would do in his life one day, has grown to include a city, and some more people along the way. |
Pastor Brian Gullins, still living in the Tidewater Area and working as both a teacher and minister, knew that one day he would be a pastor. While praying about that day and dreaming of everything it could be, he considered some things that were in his heart about the church he would one day pastor: he wanted to go north from the Tidewater Area, he was passionate aboutcapital cities because he grew up as the child of U.S. diplomats, and he knew that capital cities play a part in God’s plan for the earth. So, he kept praying, as did his wife, Co-Pastor Angeline, family and friends, about what to do next.
In 2005, Calvary Revival Church Richmond started to come into focus.
One day, while working in his office at Calvary Revival Church in Norfolk, Va., Pastor Brian continued the conversation on starting a church with his close friend and colleague. His friend’s response: “Why not Richmond?” This colleague had received numerous phone calls from Richmond residents, asking if and when a church would be coming their way.
God, the Author of our story, has a unique way of scripting the narrative so that we have what we need when we need it. And that’s what He’s done for us: given us the answer to our needs right when we needed it.
Richmond –
- North of the Tidewater area
- Capital city
- Wanted a church
And so it was settled.
In 2007, Pastor Brian began sharing with others that “Richmond is ripe for revival.” This became the driving force behind the move from Norfolk to Richmond. Pastor Brian, his wife, Co-Pastor Angeline, and many others were beginning to see the same thing – that God loves the people of Richmond and is gearing up to bring life back to the city.
Finally, after much prayer, planning and preparation, on April 6, 2008, Calvary Revival Church Richmond began in a rented hotel room off of a Broad Street. Richmond residents met with commuters from the Tidewater Area to commemorate the first service.
Today, the church has now moved into a more spacious facility just a couple blocks east on Broad Street.
So, our story, like your story, is already written. We just want to be on the same page with God as we live it out.
